Getting To Murchison Falls; Murchison falls national park is located in the northern region of Uganda. It is located north west of Kampala the capital city of Uganda. Murchison falls national park is managed by the government body responsible for all the protected areas in Uganda called, the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA). Getting To Murchison Falls
Murchison falls national park is very accessible despite which direction you drive from, this is so because it have gates almost all around it. You can either get to Murchison falls national park by road or by air from Entebbe international airport. You can either enter Murchison falls park from the northern part or the southern gates, still, either by road or by air.
By road; Getting To Murchison Falls national park can be done by bus from Kampala or by private means perhaps is a self-drive or pick up from Entebbe international airport by the tour company that organized your trip. It is a three (3) hours’ drive of 305 km distance to masindi town. From masindi town, the main route enters kachumbanyobo gate; it is about 85 km from masindi, and goes through kaniyo pabidi forest to paraa in the southern part of murchison falls national park.
You can also use bugungu gate which, still, leads to the southern part of Murchison falls national park, it is 135 km and longer than kichumbanyobo route, but it is the most scenic route with spectacular views of budongo forest and the rift valley escarpment.
On the other hand, you can still reach Murchison falls national park through the northern gates of chobe, wankwar, mumbako and tangi gates which are located in in the northern side across the River Nile. You can reach the northern gates via the kampala- pakwach route which crosses the Nile at karuma falls bridge. It is just 260 km from Kampala capital city and the drive will last for 4 hours. The northern gates are favorable for the visitors from gulu or from kidepo national park.
Tangi gate is just 110 km from karuma falls bridge along pakwach road. Tangi gate is so accessible for the visitors going to the northern part of Murchison falls national park. However, it is reached at through a marrum poor road with curfew at 16:00 hours and you also cannot go out from tangi gate beyond 13:00 hours. There is also no camping allowed around tangi gate. It is a 3 hrs drive distance from karuma falls bridge to tangi gate.
By air; you can also reach Murchison falls national park by air transport through pakuba, bugungu and chobe air fields. Bugungu is a few kilometers from paraa Uganda Wildlife Authority headquarters. Bugungu air field id most convenient for safari tourists to Paara in the southern part of Murchison falls national park. And it is convenient to the tourist going to red chilli safari camp, Nile camp and simba safari camp. You can also go through chobe air field located adjacent to chobe safari lodge in the northern part of the park.
You can book the chartered aircrafts that operate domestic trips to the national parks in Uganda including eagle airlines, aero link among the rest. The aircrafts can be booked at Entebbe international airport or kajjansi airport which is so close to Entebbe international airport.
Air transport is easy quick, convenient and less tiring compared to the road transport. However, the road transport is much more enjoyable as you get a chance to sight spectacular views, and also learn habits of the local street venders.
