Game parks in Northern Uganda : Northern Uganda is one of the most exciting places to visit in Uganda because of its rich history and the nature and wildlife in the region. This place is home to number of game parks and wildlife reserves that give their visitors a wide range of exciting safari experiences. In this article we shine a light on some of the most popular national parks you can visit when you are ever in the northern Uganda region.
The parks in the Northern region are home to a number of wildlife that includes but are not limited to: lions, elephants, cheetahs, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, antelopes and many more animals. The parks also have a number of birds in the region, over 1000 species that you will find spread across the different parks.
These park in northern Uganda include: –
- Murchison Falls National Park is the most famous and most visited of all, this park found in northwest Uganda is the country’s largest national park covering over 3,900 square kilometers.
- After Murchison falls National Park, you will head to northeast of the region; to Kidepo Valley National Park a remote and rugged diverse array of wildlife mostly the cheetahs, lions, and elephants.
- Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve is another park in the northern region that is known for animals like zebras, antelopes, and buffaloes among other animals.
The other less well-known parks but ones that offer you an interesting experience to the north are Bokora Corridor Wildlife Reserve, Matheniko Wildlife Reserve and Karamoja Wildlife Reserve.

Bokora Corridor Wildlife Reserve
The Bokora Corridor Wildlife Reserve is found in the Karamoja region of northeastern Uganda. It’s a protected area where several animals move to in different seasons of migration. The corridor slightly about 400 kilometers from Kampala, Uganda’s capital city. It is home to several animals like elephants, buffaloes, antelopes, zebras, giraffes and others. It also has a number of birds and trees boasted by the semi-arid climate with two rainy seasons and a dry season.
Activities done in this corridor include but are not limited to game drives, bird watching, nature walks and community tours.
Karamoja Wildlife Reserve
The Karamoja Wildlife Reserve is also in the Karamoja region; it is a habitat for a diverse range of wildlife including elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, impalas, and others. The reserve is also home to over 200 bird species.
Activities done in this reserve include game drives, bird watching, rock climbing, nature walks, community tours and scenery picnics- the place has some of the most beautiful views and sceneries.
Matheniko Wildlife Reserve
The Matheniko Wildlife Reserve is situated in the Karamoja region approximately 250 miles from Kampala. It has animals like buffaloes, antelopes, impalas, topis and others. This reserve has over 500 bird species and loads of locals folk the place for bird watching. Other activities done in the reserve are game drives, nature walks and community tours.

These game reserves are quite small, so each can be explored in a day or so. And since they are quite far from the capital so people that take a trip up north can visit all the three plu the famous Kidepo, Murchison falls and Pian Upe.
