Attractions in Gulu District : Gulu is part of the former Acholi District which existed at Independence. IN 1974, Acholi District was divided into East Acholi and West Acholi which became Kitgum and Gulu district respectively in 1980. Gulu borders the districts of Adjumani in the north, Arua andNebbi in the West, Pader I the East, Apac and Masindi in the south and the Republic of Sudan in the north. The only Tarmac road links Gulu to Masindi through Apac. The rest of the roads in the district are Murram and feeder roads. The district is also connected to the rail network which crosses the middle of the road from Lira to Pakwach I Nebbi District. Gulu had an airfield which facilitates air transport , this is run by the district, Scheduled and chartered flights are available. It is 5 hr 7 min, 333.6 km via Kampala – Gulu High way.The district has over 468,407 people, 240,226 are female and 228,181 are Male.

The languages used in the district are Acholi,Luo and English. In Gulu district there are several economic activities done to bring income to the people of the city and national coffers and these inculde;Agriculture with main emphasis on food crops such as millet, cassava, cow Pease, potatoes, beans, Simsim and sunflower. Cash crops include cotton, Tobacco, Sugar cane and Simsim. Vegetables are Cabbage. There is fishing on western end of the district in the River Nile.

Murchison Falls National Park, which is the largest part in Uganda covering an area of 4,000 sq Km. It extends to Gulu district. Murchison Falls National Park is Uganda’s most popular national park, receiving the highest annual number of visitors of any park in the country. Popular visitor activities include game drives, night drives, boat cruises to the delta and Murchison Falls waterfall, nature walks, bird watching and chimp tracking. Rabongo Forest,  this is an everlasting natural phenomenal forest located in Murchison Falls National park and it’s about 4km long . It is home to chimpanzees for lovers of chimp trekking and Forest Park walking Rabongo Forest has got you covered. After a long walk in the forest Rabongo can do you justice in safari camping don’t get bothered with accommodation troubles what a complete package Rabongo Forest is, as a tourist attraction in Gulu.

Fort Patiko/ Baker’s  Port; The fort itself is worth a visit, when you´re in Gulu anyway. Approx. 40min- 1 hours’ drive from the city it´s situated in a nice rural area and local guides will show you around (10.000 UGX/Person). The remains of it are rather interesting.There is also a nice opportunity to take a little walk in the surrounding area and climb one of the close hills for fantastic views.  The fort holds good stories that tell the sour stories of slave trade adventure lovers and historians Patiko is here.

Ajai Game reserve, Ajai is one of the conserved areas where leopards  are almost residents  and seeing them doesn’t need a socerer but only a sight to the reserve premises. Ajai is a great place to see savanah and wood land birds that makes bird sighting a lovely and endless activity to have while in Ajai .
