GETTING TO MURCHISON FALLS NATIONAL PARK

The majority of international tourists to Uganda come at Entebbe International Airport (EBB), about an hour’s drive southwest of the capital, Kampala. Murchison Falls National Park is a 200-mile (322-kilometer) drive north from the airport. There are two approaches from the south, both of which originate in Masindi. The primary road enters the park by Kichumbanyobo Gate and travels 53 miles (85 kilometers) to Paraa. The lengthier, more scenic route continues for approximately 84 miles (135 kilometers) through Bugungu Gate. If you’re coming from the north, you have four options: Chobe, Wankwar, Mubako, and Tangi.

All access routes go to Paraa, where a car ferry that runs every two hours provides access to the opposite half of the park. If you want to fly, the park has three airfields that can be reached by charter jet from Entebbe International Airport or Kajjansi Airfield near Kampala. Pakuba Airfield is the nearest one to Paraa.
