Murchison falls national park is bisected into two sectors the northern and southern sector by Victoria Nile. Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Pick up and transfer to Murchison falls national park

Pick up and transfer to Murchison falls national park, upon arrival at Entebbe airport on the first day of the 5 Days Murchison Falls Wildlife & Chimpanzee Safari, you will be welcomed by our driver guide who will brief you about the safari and then start the journey to Murchison falls national park. The journey takes about 5 to 6 hours drive and on the way you will have a stopover at Ziwa rhino sanctuary where you will participate in an adventurous rhino tracking to spend time with the endangered rhinos in their natural habitat. After rhino tracking you will proceed to Masindi town for lunch and after continue to Murchison falls national park. Upon arrival in the park you will drive directly to the top of the falls where you will have breathtaking views of the waterfalls, scenery, animals among others. From the top of the falls you will drive to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Morning game drive and boat cruise to the bottom of the falls

Morning game drive, after an early breakfast on the second day of the 5 Days Murchison Falls Wildlife & Chimpanzee Safari your driver guide will pick you up from the lodge to go for a morning game drive which starts at around 6: 00am. During the game drive you will be able to view animals like buffaloes, elephants, waterbucks, warthogs, giraffes, Uganda kobs grazing in the savannah plains with due, view predators like hyenas, lions, leopards among others before going back to their hiding areas, view different birds among others. After the game drive you will drive back to the lodge for lunch.

Boat cruise, after lunch you will go for an exciting boat cruise to the bottom of the falls which starts at Paraa jetty landing site and takes about 2 to 3 hours. During the boat cruise you will be able to view large concentrations of hippos and crocodiles in water, view animals like elephants, buffaloes, warthogs, antelopes along the water banks, view water bird species like fish eagle, kingfishers, cormorants among others. After the boat cruise you will return back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Nile delta boat cruise and afternoon game drive

Nile delta boat cruise, after breakfast on the third day of the 5 days big five and chimpanzee trekking safari in Murchison falls national park you will drive to Paraa jetty landing site to go for an amazing Nile delta boat cruise. During the Nile delta boat cruise which takes about 4 to 5 hours you will have great views of animals, beautiful scenery, water birds such as the rare shoebill stork, goliath heron, African jacana, African skimmer, pied kingfisher, view the local people fetching water from the Nile, see fishermen fishing on Lake Albert among others. After the Nile delta boat ride you will return to the lodge for lunch.

Game drive, after lunch you will go for an afternoon game drive in the park where you will have great views of animals that you might have missed during the previous game drive, view the beautiful sundowner, take incredible photos among others. After the game drive you will drive back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Chimpanzee trekking in Budondo forest

Chimpanzee trekking, after an early breakfast on the fourth day of the 5 days big five and chimpanzee trekking safari in Murchison falls national park, you will carry packed lunch and meet up with your driver guide and to drive to the ferry crossing point to cross to Budongo forest in the southern part of the park. Upon arrival in Budongo forest you will go for a briefing about the rules and regulations of chimpanzee trekking. After the briefing you will be allocated a park guide who will lead you in the forest during trekking and a habituated chimpanzee family to trek. Trekking of chimpanzees in Budongo forest takes about 30 minutes to 4 hours depending on their location and during trekking you will be able to spot other primates like black and white colobus monkeys, red tailed moneys, blue monkeys, view different plant and tree species, view mammals like forest elephants, buffaloes if you are lucky, bird species like African pied wagtail, olive breasted greenbul, crested guineafowl, black kite, African green broadbill among others. Once the chimpanzee family has been found you will be allowed to spend one hour with them in their natural environment which helps you to observe their behaviors, watch them breastfeeding, feeding, playing, resting, hunting, fighting, take great photos and record videos to show people back home after the safari. After the face to face interaction with the chimpanzees, you will trek back to the starting point, meet up with your driver guide to transfer back to the lodge for an evening relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Departure to Kampala

On the last day of the 5 days big five and chimpanzee trekking safari in Murchison falls national park, you will have a relaxed breakfast, check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Kampala. You will have en-route lunch on the way and upon arrival in Kampala your driver guide will drop you off at Entebbe International airport for your departure flight or drop off at any hotel depending on your schedule.
